A public service for famed Atlanta architect and developer John Portman, who died December 29, is planned for Friday, Jan. 5.
Portman, a Georgia Tech graduate, designed buildings and developments around the world, but had a particular impact on his home city and defined its skyline with iconic buildings.
A memorial will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m. in the atrium of AmericasMart Building 3 at the corner of John Portman Boulevard (Historic Harris Street) and Ted Turner Drive (Historic Spring Street). The street address is: 75 John Portman Blvd., NW, Atlanta. The atrium is on the second floor, and guests will be admitted beginning at 11:30 a.m. Parking will be available in AmericasMart Building 2, located at 40 John Portman Blvd, NW, beginning at 11:30 a.m., as well as in surface parking lots nearby. If using Marta, you should plan to exit the Peachtree Center Station and follow the signs to AmericasMart.
