The Atlanta Braves will give fans and community leaders input into the development of its new Cobb County ballpark, the team announced Thursday.

The 20-member Atlanta Braves Fan Advisory Board will provide the team “thoughts and insights on the ballpark and development design, plans, processes and entertainment activities,” the team said in a news release.

The Braves will vacate Turner Field in downtown Atlanta after nearly 20 years and will open the 2017 season in a $672 million stadium in Cobb County. Land is being cleared at the site where the new stadium will be built near the intersections of Interstates 75 and 285. The Braves will simultaneously build a $400 million mixed-used development surrounding the stadium featuring restaurants, retail and office and residential space.

“From day one, our focus has been on giving our fans the best possible sports and entertainment experience,” said Atlanta Braves Executive Vice President Derek Schiller. “Through cooperation, teamwork and mutual understanding, the Atlanta Braves Fan Advisory Board will help guide us on that mission.”

The board will be advised and led by Georgia State University marketing professor Ken Bernhardt.

The Braves and Bernhardt, according to the release, “have selected members from a mix of season tickets holders, representatives from Braves corporate partners and community leaders from both Atlanta and Cobb County. In addition, there are representatives from each Cobb County district.”

The committee plans to meet approximately three to five times a year, with its first meeting scheduled for late summer.
