There was some good news about Georgia schools today. A report released Wednesday says Georgia has seen the greatest improvement in its academic standards of all states reviewed.

Georgia jumped from a grade of F to an A in its overall proficiency standards, according to a report released today by the journal Education Next. Education Next evaluates the rigor of state proficiency standards against the National Assessment of Educational Progress, a federally administered benchmark test known as the Nation's Report Card.

But raising standards doesn’t necessarily mean student performance has risen, although that is the goal. Authors of the report credit Common Core State Standards with pushing states, including Georgia, to improve their standards.
