DeKalb County School District students continue to struggle with to reach benchmarks on the national test that measures college and career readiness, but school district officials say they see signs of improvement.
More than 3,500 students took the SAT, district officials said Tuesday as national data was released on who took the test and how they performed.
District officials said it appeared students narrowed achievement gaps between students across the state while outperforming students of color nationwide.
“We are not where we expect to be just yet, but we are very proud of the progress our students are making,” Superintendent Steve Green said. “Every step counts, and we are moving forward and upward.”
According to district officials:
DeKalb students trailed Georgia’s public-school SAT performance by 107 points in 2016. In 2017, students were within 60 points of the state average.
DeKalb students scored 132 points behind the national public-school average in 2016. In 2017, DeKalb scored within 64 points of the national average.
