Cobb County’s students improved its Georgia High School Writing Test (GHSWT) scores, according to recently-released data. The test measures writing skills and is required for students to earn a diploma.

Cobb students averaged a score of 231 points this year, a one-point increase from their 2011 score. That’s higher than the state’s average score of 224 points, and higher than metro Atlanta school districts’ average score of 226 points.

“I’m proud to see that our district-wide efforts to incorporate writing in all academic areas, including math and science, are resulting in improved performance and a higher passing rate on the GHSWT for Cobb county,” said Michael Hinojosa, the district’s superintendent.
