Roswell native Jonathan Pisek, who graduated from Roswell High School, has been chosen by Walt Disney Imagineering to be a part of a highly creative team of students from Savannah College Art and Design. The team of four was selected by Walt Disney Imagineering as one of the six finalist teams in its 23rd Imaginations competition, which allow participants to showcase their knowledge and talent in design.

Patricia L. Donat, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of North Georgia, has been named to the Board of Trustees for the Southern Association of Colleges and School Commission on Colleges. The SACS is the Southeast's recognized accrediting organization for higher education, and the 77 members of the Board of Trustees are responsible for helping establish commission policy and taking action on the accreditation of institutions. Donat's nomination was approved at the group's 2013 annual meeting held in December.

Gwinnett Technical College inducted 160 new members into the campus chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society last week, bringing the organization's membership number to 1,370 GTC scholars. Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education and in order to be invited for membership, students must have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours of associate degree coursework and have at least a 3.5 GPA.

The program provides free education and training for eligible people ages 16 to 24, to help them start a career, earn a high school diploma and find a good job. Marietta City Schools educator Leigh Anne Bohacek recently won the Walk Cobb Golden Sneaker Award. Cobb2020, The Partnership for a Healthier Cobb County, partnered with Walk Georgia through the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension to increase physical activity in a fun, community-oriented way through Walk Cobb, while participants logged their physical activity using the Cobb's Cooperative Extension Walk Georgia program. At the end of the six-week campaign, Bohacek had logged a total of 320.7 miles.
