A junior high school teacher is accused of ordering an unusual punishment for a student who tried to make a basket with a crumpled wad of paper and missed the trash can.

The mother of the 14-year-old student involved in the incident said her daughter was forced to lie down on the floor during class and use her teeth to pick up the crumpled piece of paper.

The teenager, who does not want to be identified, according to Click2Houston, said she complied with the teacher's order because she was afraid. She said her classmates laughed at her.

A district spokesperson issued a public statement regarding the incident at Woodrow Wilson Junior High School.

"It was brought to our attention that a Dayton ISD teacher did not use proper protocol when disciplining a student for throwing a piece of paper during class.  This is not a standard disciplinary practice used at Dayton ISD, and immediate administrative action was taken with this teacher."

The teacher apologized to the student the next day, but the teenager’s mother said her daughter was made to feel like an animal and she plans to take her daughter out of the class.
