A school thought they were simply being helpful by posting a chart outlining recommended bedtimes for students ages 5 through 12, but instead the school’s Facebook post went viral.

The reaction to the bedtime chart was mixed. While some parents said the chart reinforced their own rules, other parents were shocked at suggested bedtimes as early as 6:45 p.m. Critics called the recommendations “absurd” and “not practical.” Another person commenting said the chart was “fabulous” and would likely make pediatricians happy, because it allows children to get an adequate amount of sleep.

The National Sleep Foundation recommends that children ages 3 to 5 get 11 to 13 hours of sleep each night, while children ages 6 to 13 years need 9 to 11 hours of sleep nightly.

The chart posted on Facebook falls within the recommended guidelines.

The post has over 50,000 likes and over 380,000 shares.
