Neighbors in a Port St. Lucie, Florida, community told WPTV in West Palm Beach that they observed a gray sedan spinning around, going in reverse for several minutes in their quiet neighborhood Thursday morning. They eventually discovered it was a dog at the wheel of the joyride they witnessed.
"I figured, 'How the heck did they manage to do that?' " neighbor Anna Sabol said.
About an hour later, police arrived to investigate how to get the black Labrador to put it in bark − park.
The dog’s owner stepped away from the car for a moment, and somehow the pup took the car for a spin, police say. Authorities were eventually able to make contact with the car and dial a passcode on the door to stop the car. However, the dog and car save happened a little too late for a nearby mailbox, some bricks and trash can. No one was hurt in the small accident, police say.
“He was doing pretty good until he hit the mailbox. He went around for about an hour without hitting anything at all," Sabol said.
