Henry County police have no suspects in a case of two horses stolen from private property in Locust Grove.
The family who reported the theft Wednesday told Channel 2 Action News that someone cut a hole in the fence and lured the horses onto a trailer with feed.
Samantha McGinnis said the 23-year-old former race horse “Henry” was her best friend growing up. The family’s 14-year-old quarter horse, “Buddy,” was also reported stolen.
McGinnis and her mother, Rachel Moore, told the television station they feel both empty and violated because the horses were taken from a backyard pasture.
“The amount of time and effort it takes to put in to stealing two horses out of someone’s backyard is just unthinkable,” McGinnis said. “I don’t understand.”
Police said they have no leads, but McGinnis and Moore hope to get the horses back after what Moore called a premeditated crime.
“You’ve got to have a horse trailer,” Moore told Channel 2. “You’ve got to have the bolt cutters. You have to have the halters or rope.”
A reward of $1,000 is being offered by the family for the horses’ safe return.
