Special education teachers are the highest in demand for school districts in the metropolitan Atlanta area.

Among current vacancies, special education teachers make up at least 10 percent of the openings in all reporting districts in the metropolitan Atlanta area. According to the Council for Exceptional Children, there are about 400,000 special education teachers in the United States. Of those, about 13 percent quit their jobs each year.

The numbers were compiled from Atlanta Public Schools, Clayton County Schools, Cobb County Schools, the DeKalb County School District, Gwinnett County Schools. Fulton County responded to a request, but did not submit data.
