If you're not hungry yet, you will be when you see Google's ode to the delicious signature Thai dish, Pad Thai, on its homepage.
Inspired by doodler Juliana and her quest for cooking up the noodle dish, the tech giant featured a tasty slideshow interactive of the culinary mission.
In the Google doodle, Google letters scramble to make the dish, tossing greens and sauce and everything else.
According to Google, the basics of Pad Thai include:
- Soaking rice noodles in water for a few hours
- Frying eggs with tofu
- Adding in some vegetables
- Tossing everything around in a sauce made of tamarind, shrimp and fish
- And topping it all off with roasted peanuts
The dish originates from the Second World War, when Thailand was facing shortage of rice, a staple for the Thai people.
But they eventually opted to use rice noodles instead, a much cheaper substitute. Once they added vegetables and affordable sources of protein (and some magic), Pad Thai was born.
According to Google, the recipe is believed to be introduced by Chinese traders.
To celebrate the Thai delicacy, we gathered some of our favorite Thai recipes in which chefs put their own sweet (or healthier) spin on the iconic dish.
