Acclaimed actor Alan Rickman died Thursday morning, according to multiple media reports. His family confirmed the death was a result of a battle with cancer. He was 69 years old.

The British-born actor began his acting career in 1972 when he began attending the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Since then, he appeared in many notable films of international recognition.

1. Severus Snape

Rickman acted as the ominous Professor Snape, teacher of Potions and later Defense Against the Dark Arts, in all eight of the "Harry Potter" films. 

2. Absolem the Caterpillar

Rickman voiced the hookah-smoking catepillar in the 2010 live-action version of "Alice in Wonderland." 

3. Ronald Reagan 

Rickman acted as the 40th president in the 2013 film,"The Butler" in which a black man from the South receives the opportunity of a lifetime as a butler at the White House.

4. Judge Turpin

The main antagonist in "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," Judge Turpin has Benjamin Barker arrested and claims Barker's wife, Lucy, as his own.

5. Harry

2003's "Love Actually," chronicles the ups and downs of eight different couples. Rickman's character, Harry, struggles to maintain his relationship with his wife after she finds out he's been flirting with his secretary.

6. Hans Gruber

In the "Die Hard" series, Rickman played antagonist Hans Gruber, an internationally feared German terrorist.

7. Metatron

Rickman plays the Voice of God in "Dogma" alongside costars Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Salma Hayek.
