During a two-year stay in London, Cathy Schultz embraced being able to walk to shops and restaurants from her home. When she and her husband Randy moved back to metro Atlanta, the couple found a three-story townhome in historic Roswell with the same access to shopping and dining.

The 2,800-square-foot brownstone was designed by Roswell-based Arie Kohn Architects and built by Lehigh Homes in 2010. It has three bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths.

With the help of Atlanta-based KMH Interiors, Cathy gave her home what she calls a "modern comfortable" look. During the couple's travels, they stayed in boutique hotels, and Cathy wanted to incorporate the clean, clutter-free look of those properties. The use of varying fabric textures and pops of color in a neutral background helped create the setting Cathy was seeking.

The circular dining room table, which is Cathy’s favorite piece of furniture, is made of mahogany. “I’ve always loved a circular table because I think when you have a dinner party it’s a lot more fun, and you feel connected with your guests,” Cathy said.

The refrigerator is hidden, with French doors and panels. Designer Katie Walton helped them choose features such as the kitchen backsplash. Also in the kitchen is a Jenn-Air double oven, and a farmhouse sink. Leather and chrome stools enable seating at the island, which has the same dark stain as the kitchen cabinets.

A vintage-looking Brutozoni stove in cream makes a statement in the kitchen. “It’s my crowning glory in my kitchen,” Cathy said. The kitchen countertops are a black recycled granite composite, and the boomerang-shaped bar top is custom-made out of zebrawood.

The master bedroom has a small photo collection above the headboard.

Two paintings of fish, from Raiford Gallery, bring color into the master bathroom, which has custom tile work.

A focal point in the guest bedroom is a gold light from Worlds Away. The bedroom headboards were custom-made.

Cathy's favorite outdoor feature is the courtyard, which includes an Indian cooking pot that serves as a firepit. In the summer, the couple adds a top, converting the firepit to a table. The circular staircase from the kitchen to the courtyard was an idea borrowed from their lake house at Lake Lanier, which also has a circular staircase. “There is not a lot of space, so you have to be creative with your space,” Cathy said. Seating in the courtyard is from Restoration Hardware.
