Mellie finds a reason to live again!
Fitz informs the drunk, smelly, chip-eating, mourning First Lady that Jerry died as part of an underhanded way to help keep them in the White House another four years via sympathy. To him, this is tragic and awful. He preferred it being a random act of God.
To Mellie, this meant Jerry died for a purpose. It wasn't just a terrible accident. She found that hard to reconcile. Now she feels a sense of closure. "He died for our sins," she said. The old Mellie may be back soon because she... takes a cleansing shower!
Fitz, on the other hand, isn't happy... at all - with her or with Jake, of course. Jake slept with his girl and killed his son. At least that's how he is processing it.
Here are highlights from the hour:
Torture me? Big deal!: Fitz wants to believe Rowan's story that Jake killed Harrison (false) and his son Jerry (false again). He decides to ignore the fact that Rowan has his own reasons for making this so. Jake, arrested and in custody at the Pentagon, mocks the first interrogator and awaits Fitz to show up - which he does. At first, Fitz acts all casual and feeds him. (They even sing "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" together.) Then Fitz says he expects Jake's confession. Jake won't do that. He keeps telling the truth in hopes Fitz believes him. They were friends!
Game over: Jake's strategy hits a snag when he finds out Fitz knows about him and Liv going off on a remote island together. Fitz's jealousy clouds his judgment. "It doesn't matter what the truth is," Jake says. "The only thing matters is I put my hands where you don't think I belong."
"I'm going to have you destroyed," Fitz growls. "I will watch you fry in the electric chair and have a party when it happens."
Jake tells Fitz he's a "white hat," which is why Jake is even still alive. Eventually, Fitz just punches the crap out of his face while Jake tells him how much he enjoyed making love to Liv. A little sado-masochistic, eh, Jake?
Liv finds out: Eventually, of course, Liv figures out something is wrong. Jake isn't returning her calls. At first, her dad tries to assuage her with platitudes over wine but her suspicion continues. Huck finds out Jake had been in the White House. Liv demands to know what is going on from Fitz. He says nothing. She knows Jake is being held - but why? Cyrus, who is still angry Jake killed his hubby James last season, tells Liv lies that there is clear evidence Jake did all the things Rowan says he did. She starts having doubts about Jake.
Annoying Abby: Abby keeps avoiding drunk David Rosen. Too busy, she keeps screeching! He finally shows up at her office to tell her he used B613 documentation to get named Attorney General. He was winning! But the judge ultimately committed suicide over the info he had over him. David felt guilty about getting his hands dirty. He said he tried to be like Olivia Pope and the result of that is people die. Abby goes over to Liv's place to excoriate her but ends up hugging her when she realizes Liv is in so much pain and conflict over the Jake situation.
Poor Huck: When Huck told the truth about his life to his baby's mama Kim, she told him to stay away from their son Javi. He keeps stalking her. She promises to let him meet his son that night. He buys a video-game controller and Quinn wraps it for him. But when he arrives, he finds out she had brought a psychiatrist, not Javi. He gets angry and starts to joke the poor psychiatrist before leaving, eyes wild with rage and confusion. He's bereft with sadness that she lied to him and that she doesn't believe him.
The story from last week continues: Last week's story about Liv's friend supposedly killing her son and being falsely arrested continues. In it, the Gladiators discover a dirty cop was involved in the death. Quinn and Liv watch him and then see him kill this woman named Faith, who has a key to something important. But the dirty cop can't find it. Quinn figures out that she swallowed it. Through Gladiator "magic," she waltzes into the funeral home and digs the key out of the dead woman's stomach. This story is not over.
