NeNe Leakes is bored now that her regular role on NBC's "The New Normal" is gone and she has been forced to spend all her time taping "Real Housewives of Atlanta" this past summer. To fill that void of unhappy boredom, she has been playing protagonist, creating drama - much to the delight of Bravo.
Her pajama party where she raised all sorts of uncomfortable questions led to a battle royale the past two episodes (and record ratings to boot.)
In this episode, she gets all sorts of upset when Kenya Moore, trying to mend fences, holds a charity event honoring Leakes.
She still hadn't truly cleared the air with Kenya over who was responsible for inciting the big fight at NeNe's party. Kenya blames NeNe for her line of questioning. NeNe blames Kenya for standing up and instigating the first physical attack. In reality, both should share the blame but neither was really forgiving about their roles.
Kenya's strategy at that point was to "kill her with kindness." So the charity masquerade ball, in which Kenya would auction off bachelors and raise money for Saving our Daughters, a charity NeNe supports.
But Kenya simply sent an Evite to the ladies on the show, including NeNe. She didn't bother to contact NeNe personally, a big mistake. Was she scared of talking to NeNe? Huh? How passive aggressive is that?
When NeNe hears about the party third hand, she gets upset. She doesn't understand why Kenya didn't invite her directly. (She claims she never even saw the Evite.) She doesn't want to go. But Cynthia Bailey convinces her to show up.
So NeNe comes to the party, but she is not feeling it at all. Her sour face says it all when she arrives.
Kenya notes the ironies of the charity in question, Saving Our Daughters. "This charity teaches young girls how to treat each other how to forgive and be kind," she says.
Then she introduces Nene, calling her a "very good friend of mine." Then she invites NeNe up to the mic.
NeNe is not happy about this. She goes up, sour face in full bloom, and says: "It's amazing how many good friends I have and don't know about it."
"But I would like to thank Saving Our Daughters, one of many charities I work with."
Then she ended her speech and walked away. Tense and awkward!
Peter Thomas, Cynthia's husband, said he wants to leave early. Cynthia, NeNe and her husband Gregg follow.
Peter is angry because he felt NeNe should have been gracious in public. "Whatever beef you have with Kenya," he says, "this is a charity event."
"Completely uncalled for," Kenya added later. "You make me and yourself look bad."
NeNe has no real excuse for acting the fool, just gets defensive. "You aren't going to put it on me?" she says. "Are you serious?"
She later wonders why Peter is even getting involved.
"I felt bullied to be in that situation," NeNe says.
In other storylines:
- Porsha Williams tries out for Kandi Burruss' play. She gets the role! She sang "Eye of the Sparrow" in her audition and did well. She also holds a roller-skating party in which all the ladies show up, save for Nene. Nothing much happens.
- Kandi hears that her Mama Joyce offered to pay someone to entrap fiance Todd with another woman. When her best friend Carmen yells at a woman Crystal spreading false rumors about Carmen and Todd, Crystal tells Mama Joyce. Mama Joyce then leaves a threatening voice mail with Carmen. Kandi has had wishful thinking that her mom was going to leave her alone. But clearly, she isn't. Todd is upset when Kandi tells her and says he may consider leaving Kandi if she can't deal with her mom's stank-a** attitude. Kandi can't let go of her mom and keeps trying to rationalize her behavior. Carmen and Todd suggest Kandi goes into therapy. She accepts.
