CBS46 morning anchor Amanda Davis suffered a stroke Tuesday night and is hospitalized, according to news director Steve Doerr.

UPDATE: On Wednesday evening, she passed away, Doerr confirmed. She was 62. Reaction from past and present colleagues including Paul Ossmann, Russ Spencer and Ken Cook are included here.

"She suffered a spontaneous massive stroke while waiting for a flight to go to San Antonio," said Doerr, who cut short his vacation in New England and flew back to Atlanta today to see her at the hospital. Davis was about to attend the funeral of her stepfather in San Antonio.

He said Davis is still alive and being evaluated. "Her family is with her," said anchor Sharon Reed on CBS46's 5 p.m. newscast. "As you might imagine, they're going through an incredible ordeal right now. We're praying with them. Her family has asked for privacy. We certainly love Amanda and... we do want to let yo know we'll do our very best to keep you updated on her condition per her family's wishes."

Doerr didn't identify which hospital she is staying.

Davis joined CBS46 as a morning anchor in January. The Clark -Atlanta University graduate and Emmy-winning journalist spent 26 years at WAGA-TV, currently a Fox affiliate. Following a DUI-related arrest in 2012, she retired from that station a few months later. She aired a three-part series in 2016 on CBS46 about her battle with alcoholism.
