Vanessa Rousso's poker playing abilities are coming to fore, overcoming her sometimes detrimental emotional and paranoid outbursts.

She had two alliances going: one with the Austwins and another with the dorky duo of Steve Moses and Johnny Mac MacGuire. After Steve won last week's Head of Household, this gave her the opportunity to break up the Austwins (where she was clearly the fourth out of four.). The good news for her was she'd be able to keep blood of her hands since Steve had to do the dirty work.

And he did, placing Austin Matelson and his girlfriend Liz Nolan on the block.

The trio needed to win the crucial Power of Veto competition to save themselves and possibly dump Johnny Mac.

But Vanessa, using mental jujutsu, somehow convinced Julia to name Austin to compete against her, saying that Austin was going to put her up if he won. That may not have been the actual case. But Julia unplanned move made this a self-fulfilling prophecy. Austin became suspicious that Julia and the rest of the house was secretly going against him (including even his own girlfriend!) and his alter ego Judas came to fore.

He went out of his way to aggressively win a competition where he had to spin 15 times in a tutu and then knock pins down while dizzy. Afterwards, he jumped around like he had won a WWE challenge. Judas wanted to take Julia down.

Liz was flabbergasted by his wrestler-type behavior and was deeply angry. He tried to apologize and say he really thought he was being targeted. Now he was trapped. He felt if he didn't use the Power of Veto on himself, he'd be going home (which was probably true). But he couldn't protect both twins by taking this route.

Steve, free to pick another target, placed Julia on the block with Liz. The twin twist was over.

Julia decided to sacrifice herself since she felt her sister had played a better game. And Austin convinced Vanessa (and by virtue of the alliance, Steve) to keep Liz around, although she is a superior player in challenges. This might come back to bite her in the butt but she is hoping to get jury votes down the road.

So in the end, Julia was voted out by Steve, Johnny Mac and Vanessa.

And based on what Atlantan Shelli Poole said in the jury house, she would certainly give Vanessa the vote over any of the others left in the house. So Vanessa has one almost guaranteed vote. Whether the other jurors would agree is a different story. Vanessa has been a master manipulator and has worked the strategic game obsessively. That in and of itself, if she makes it to the final two, would make her hard to beat.

So if Steve were wise, he would maneuver to get rid of her but he has an alliance with her to take her to the final three with Johnny Mac. If Austin and Liz were smart, they'd target her as well at this point instead of Johnny Mac or Steve. But Vanessa has been incredibly good at keeping the target off her back.

The next Head of Household competition began last night and the spoilers are out there for who won. I won't reveal them but whoever wins will clearly shape the finale outcome. With fewer and fewer players, each victory becomes significantly more important.

Right now, to me, based on what I've seen, the two players who seem to have the best shot at the $500,000 are Steve and Vanessa. With only five players left, Austin and Liz are now a minority alliance now that they realize Vanessa may be favoring Steve and Johnny Mac. Johnny Mac has already been cut once. He seems to be the one least likely to garner jury votes, no matter how likable he is.

Then again, what do I know? I'm not in the house.

In her post-eviction interview, surprisingly, Julia said she supported the Liz-Austin relationship despite snarky comments otherwise during the show. Earlier this week, Austin also stated to Liz that he loved her. I don't recall her saying it back, though. Did she?

"Could he be a future brother in law," Julie Chen asked Julia.

"That's a long shot," she said. "But you know what? Yes. I do. I think so."

Next week, because of "Thursday Night Football," "Big Brother" will air on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, with two evictions. This will leave three people to vie for the win for the finale September 23.
