WASHINGTON -- With the political world fixated on the Republican National Convention that was then unfolding in Cleveland, President Barack Obama quietly signed into law one of the most significant food security initiatives of his career last month.
The bill had a pretty dry Washington title -- the Global Food Security Act -- and Obama's signature wasn't met with a fancy photo op with supporters looking on or multiple special pens.
But the measure's path in Congress was still a pretty remarkable one for a scorched earth election year like this one, with several Georgia actors working behind the scenes for the better part of a decade to get it done.
