WASHINGTON -- Georgia Republican U.S. Sen. David Perdue will vote against Loretta Lynch, President Barack Obama's nominee for attorney general, he said today in a statement to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on Lynch, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, in the coming weeks. Perdue praised her resume and acumen after two days of hearings last month, but ended up siding with conservatives who opposed Lynch because she backed Obama's actions on immigration. Said Perdue in a prepared statement:

"We need an Attorney General who will maintain independence and will put the law above partisan politics. I strongly disagree with her support for the President's executive action on amnesty, which is both unlawful and unconstitutional. Ultimately, Ms. Lynch's actions and answers did not demonstrate that she will consistently enforce the law and uphold our Constitution."
