It's not often a national-level politician gets involved in a state legislative race, but later this month it will happen here.

Former Republican presidential hopeful Carly Fiorina will be in Sandy Springs on Sept. 22 to raise m

oney for Meagan Hanson, the GOP nominee for state House District 80.

The invitation says the event will be at a private home on Peachtree Dunwoody Road from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Joining the host committee will set you back $2,600 but you can get in the door for a mere $250.

Hanson is running against Rep. Taylor Bennett, D-Brookhaven, who won a 2015 special election after Gov. Nathan Deal made then-Rep.  Mike Jacobs, R-Brookhaven a state court judge.

Democrats celebrated Bennett's victory as a sign of a shifting electorate. Both sides havemade the race a priority.

Fiorina dropped out of the GOP race by the time Georgia voted March 1 and later endorsed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who finished third here.
