Update 10:46 p.m.: Things are starting to move more quickly. Fox News has called North Carolina for Trump and AP has declared Clinton the winner in Colorado. Trump denies Clinton a pick-up opportunity by holding her off in North Carolina.
Update 10:42 p.m.: Democrat Hillary Clinton has won Virginia.
The state that went for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 wasn't supposed to be in play this year but was up until the final moments. Both CNN and The Associated Press declared Virginia for the Democrat.
Donald Trump has captured Ohio, according to several major networks, the first major battleground state to be called Tuesday.
Trump built an early lead in Ohio and only built as Democrat Hillary Clinton under-performed in areas around Cleveland and Cincinnati.
With the polls now closed across the country, we expect The Associated Press and major broadcast networks to begin calling states for Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
Follow along with us here as the key battleground states are called. We'll update this post with each major announcement along with what it means for the overall race.
