The divide within the Republican field for President sharpened on Thursday, as former Texas Gov. Rick Perry again attacked Donald Trump, labeling Trump a demagogue and warning voters not to blindly follow the brash businessman.
"I have a message for my fellow Republicans and the independents who will be voting in the primary process," Perry said in a statement, "what Mr. Trump is offering is not conservatism, it is Trump-ism – a toxic mix of demagoguery and nonsense."
It was not the first salvo fired by Perry at Trump, as the two men have gone back and forth for much of this month over immigration and whether Perry did enough to stop illegal immigration as Governor of the Lone Star State.
"Rick Perry failed at the border," Trump tweeted back on July 5. "He needs a new pair of glasses to see the crimes committed by illegal immigrants."
That drew a sharp response last week from Perry; again today, the former Governor took his appeal to voters in the GOP.
"Donald Trump continues to demonstrate his fundamental misunderstanding of border security," Perry said, taking direct aim at Trump.
"Mr. Trump has done nothing to prove that he is the president America needs," Perry added.
Never one to be outdone, Trump fired back.
