It's no big revelation that many Republican supporters of Donald Trump strongly believe the news media was biased against their candidate; many of them are still pointedly telling me exactly that. But since President-Elect Trump's victory, a number of liberals have been speaking out, accusing the news media of not being tough enough on Trump.
"The systemic media failure of the Trump transition," roared the headline on Sunday night from "Think Progress," a more liberal news site that puts its own progressive spin on most political stories.
In the article, Think Progress' Judd Legum hammers the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Orlando Sentinel, and other major newspapers for paying attention to Trump's "trivialities."
"The result is coverage that fails to adequately inform the public. The trivial becomes central and the essential becomes marginal," as Think Progress says the news media isn't doing its job.
Some of this bubbled up because of Trump's tweets on Saturday morning, where he criticized the cast of Hamilton for being "rude" to Vice President-Elect Mike Pence at a New York theater.
I wrote that story up on Saturday morning, and some of my readers and listeners on the liberal side of the ball complained that Trump had hoodwinked me.
"You really stand behind a "Trump's rebuke of Hamilton cast" story as worth your time?" one person asked on Twitter.
That's the developing attack line against the press - that with a few Tweets, Trump insured the press would not cover his $25 million dollar settlement of a lawsuit against Trump University.
Instead, the liberal critics say, the press will spend too much time talking about his Tweets on Hamilton, his reaction to Saturday Night Live, and other items that aren't worthy - in their mind - of any news attention.
On Sunday, Trump tweeted again about Hamilton, and also about Saturday Night Live.
I left those alone.
Instead I wrote about a growing controversy over the National Security Agency chief, who seems to be a leading contender for the top intelligence job in a Trump Administration, but who might get fired by President Obama.
I was off this weekend, but made sure I had stories up for Saturday and Sunday. Which one do you think got the most attention?
