This might well be Mitt Romney's best Tuesday night in some time, as he aims for a triple victory from primaries in Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Wisconsin, as Romney looks to further extend his delegate lead over Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul.

First, let's review the rules for delegates in today's contests:

Washington, D.C. - There are 16 delegates at stake in the nation's capital primary, as this is Winner Take All - you win by one vote, you win all the delegates here.

One note about D.C. is that Rick Santorum is not on the ballot; his campaign even had the option of just paying $10,000 to get on the ballot instead of gathering only a few hundred signatures

Maryland - Maryland has 37 delegates in all, 13 of which go to the overall winner of the state vote; 24 are divided up three each in the eight Congressional Districts of Maryland - again, Winner Take All.

Wisconsin - Wisconsin's 42 delegates are allocated the same as in Maryland - 18 go to the overall state winner and 24 are divided up three each in the state's eight Congressional Districts - Winner Take All.

In terms of polling, Romney enjoys a very big advantage in Maryland, though Santorum could possibly win the districts in the far west and out on the Eastern Shore; still this should be advantage Romney.

In Washington, D.C., Romney is the big favorite.

In Wisconsin, Romney has an edge of 7-10 points depending on the last few polls; as in Maryland, Santorum could threaten for some of the individual districts in the state.

This is the first multiple primary day since Santorum swept Alabama and Mississippi on March 13; a week earlier on Super Tuesday, Romney was the victory in 6 states, with Santorum winning three and Gingrich in one.

One note for fans of Ron Paul - primaries have not been very kind to Paul supporters so far this year.

Paul has won delegates in only a handful of primary states: New Hampshire (3), Vermont (4) and Virginia (3).

His best chance tonight might well be in the district around Madison, home to the University of Wisconsin, where Paul drew a large crowd at an event last week.

As for where the candidates will be tonight - Romney is in Wisconsin, Santorum jumps ahead to Pennsylvania, Paul is in California and Gingrich will be watching returns from his home in suburban Washington, D.C.
