Even before the Governor of Ohio has announced whether he will join the Republican race for the White House, a group backing his political efforts is buying ad time for John Kasich, using a new spot to basically introduce him to voters in the Granite State.

"My dad carried mail in his bag; they called him to John the Mailman," Kasich tells the camera.

"We turned Ohio around, and we created jobs and cut taxes and balanced our budgets," Kasich says in the video, in which he's referred to on screen as "Conservative Governor of Ohio."

Gov. John Kasich (right) speaking to former Rep. Robert Walker (R-PA) before the Ohio Republican spoke to reporters in Washington, D.C. this week.

The video was released a day after Kasich met with supporters on Capitol Hill; he is scheduled to announce his plans on July 21 in the state capital of Columbus.

In a short session with reporters, Kasich repeatedly mentioned the state of New Hampshire, seemingly tipping his hand on his own strategy in the GOP race.

"New Hampshire is a state where the voters look you in eye," Kasich said.

The former Ohio Congressman and Chairman of the House Budget Committee argues his record is a solid one to run on - his main problem is that he's not that well known - and that may be one reason for this advertising buy in the Granite State.

Kasich will need a quick boost in the polls, otherwise he seems likely to be left off the stage for the first debate, which will take place in his home state - in Cleveland - on August 6.
