A memorial service was held Tuesday for a North Georgia teenager who was struck and killed by a pickup truck.

Shawn Mask of Jasper was a Pickens County High School student who played on the football and baseball teams, according to an obituary. He was a member of Canton Church of Christ. The service took place at Sosebee Funeral Home in Canton.

Mask was killed Friday night while riding his dirt bike near his house on Thompson Lane, the sheriff’s office said.

“He loved sports,” the obituary states. “He never met a stranger and loved spending time with his family and friends.”

The Pickens County football team shared its message of support, posting in part, “We will work moving forward to honor our fallen teammate and be there for each other like a family.”

A GoFundMe campaign was created to help Mask’s mother, father and two younger brothers.

“We are trying to raise money to help with funeral expenses and medical bills and maybe even some cash for them to be able to survive being out of work to grieve,” the campaign said.

By Tuesday afternoon, the campaign had raised almost a third of its $9,000 goal.
