Road rage blamed in fatal shooting of Kennesaw student

Police search for driver who shot woman after road rage incident

A college student shot during an apparent road rage incident died Friday afternoon, hours after being injured in Cobb County.

The women, identified by friends as Kim Kilgore, was shot about 2 a.m. just inside the gates at the Shiloh Green Apartments off Shiloh Road near Kennesaw. Kilgore was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where she later died.

“There was a road rage incident that took place that carried over into the apartment complex,” Cobb County police spokesman Mike Bowman said.

“The altercation continued into the complex, where it went from a road rage incident to a physical altercation between the occupants of both vehicles,” Bowman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “After the physical altercation, at some point, a gun was produced and a female was shot.”

Cobb police investigators have not said where the incident began or what started it. The apartment complex is off Wade Green Road, just west of I-75. Police also have not released a description of the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle.

Kilgore was a student at Kennesaw State University, where she was a former member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. A Paulding County High School graduate, Kilgore worked at the Collett Country Store in Powder Springs.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kim Kilgore’s family in this time of need,” the store said Friday night in a post on its Facebook page. “We are asking for donations for the family. Your love and support is greatly appreciated!”
