Fire investigators questioned McDowell three weeks after the Waypoint Homes fire when her own home, a rental property managed by Waypoint Homes, caught on fire Nov. 30. It was reported to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services after sheriff’s deputies arrived to serve McDowell an eviction notice.

The fire at McDowell’s home is still being investigated, and it has not been determined whether it was accidental or set by someone intentionally.

McDowell confessed to throwing the Molotov cocktail into the Waypoint Homes office when intervewed by fire investigators on Dec. 7, according to a Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services release. Fire investigators said they believe McDowell threw the incendiary device because she was behind on rent and was about to be evicted.

McDowell is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
