Cobb reports no road closures after days of crashes on icy roads

After days of white-knuckle driving, Cobb County spokesman Ross Cavitt reported at 10:30 a.m. Friday that there are no weather-related road closures.

That's good news for Cobb, some of which saw 1½ inches of snow that kept freezing and thawing and refreezing.

All that has Cobb school systems and students on their third day of interrupted classes.

In the 24-hour stretch immediately after the snowfall Tuesday and Wednesday, there were 200 crashes in Cobb, the county reported, and 180 road hazard calls.

And from 5 p.m. Wednesday to 2 p.m. Thursday, there were 122 crashes and 81 hazardous road calls, Cavitt previously said.

Temperatures in the 50s Friday and higher over the weekend should melt away all that icy mess out there.

But if you were one of the folks who stayed inside and are itching to get back out driving, there’s something else you should know.

Cavitt said the county has received reports of more than 100 potholes, none of which will be fixed until Tuesday. So, as always, drive safe.
