Every year, Georgia students spend hours taking state standardized tests.

The test results are used for all kinds of purposes: To help teachers figure out where students are struggling and where they’re excelling; to determine how the state rates schools and to grade some teachers’ performance.

The tests are called the Milestones.

Students in grades three through eight take the tests in language arts, math, science and social studies. High school students take tests in individual courses in those same four subject areas.
