Atlanta news: Cobb woman steals $800,000, gets 30-year sentence

Stealing more than $800,000 from her employer earned a Cobb County woman a 30-year prison sentence.

Sharron Yvonne Rice, 45, signed her boss’ signature on hundreds of checks to fake vendors and deposited them into fake accounts from 2005 to 2012, according to according to Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds.

She has been in jail since 2013, and pleaded guilty Monday afternoon to three counts of violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

Deputy Chief Melvin said the small Marietta business Rice stole from is still suffering from her actions.

Rice was sentenced to 30 years with eight to serve by Cobb Superior Court Judge Reuben Green, in addition to an order to pay $803,000 in restitution. Her co-defendant, Robert Whaley has a trial planned for July 7.
