Following a series of thefts, police encourage car owners to stop making it easier for the thieves.

Four vehicles were stolen from the southwestern part of Cherokee County in the last three weeks, according to the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, and in each case the car stolen was unlocked with keys still in the vehicle. Additionally there have been 12 cars in that time broken into with items stolen from inside and every car entered was left unlocked.

With the assistance of Cobb County Police Department and the Marietta Police Department each of the stolen vehicles has been recovered and along with most of the stolen property.

Two arrests have been made so far, though it remains an active case, police say. More arrests are expected.

Police remind people they can “greatly reduce” the risk of being victimized by locking car doors and removing the keys. (Not necessarily in that order).
