Atlanta United striker Giorgos Giakoumakis is questionable for Saturday’s MLS match at Montreal, but his status will be week-to-week, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
Giakoumakis, who leads Atlanta United with 10 goals scored, sustained a hamstring injury Sunday during the first half of the team’s 2-0 win against Philadelphia. Giakoumakis was trying to run underneath a pass, but pulled up and appeared to reach for his right hamstring.
Atlanta United (8-5-8) is in seventh place in the Eastern Conference. It has a crucial stretch of games coming. After ninth-place Montreal, it will play at third-place New England on July 12 and will host sixth-place Orlando on July 15.
Miguel Berry, who has one goal, is Atlanta United’s other striker.
Giakoumakis recently was named as an MLS All-Star, joining Thiago Almada as the Five Stripes’ representatives. The All-Star game is scheduled to be played July 19 in Washington, D.C.
