Atlanta United confirmed the acquisition of midfielder Tristan Muyumba on Thursday.
Muyumba will occupy an Senior roster slot and an International slot. The contract is through 2027. He has yet to join the team.
The club didn’t say if it paid a transfer fee, though did say it used Targeted Allocation Money to purchase him. Considering Muyumba’s age (26) and that he was bought from a second-division club in France (Guingamp), any fee paid likely was minimal. His value is listed at $900,000, according to transfermarkt.us.
It likely will be several weeks before he plays for Atlanta United. First, he must secure his work visa. Second, he must reach the proper fitness level. Third, he must understand what is asked by manager Gonzalo Pineda.
Muyumba will bring athletic ability to Atlanta United’s group of central midfielders. He made 35 appearances for Guingamp last season and 31 the previous season. He made 72 appearances, with four goals and five assists, across all competitions for the club. He came up through Monaco’s famous academy, making 51 appearances for its B team.
Muyumba is the first signing made by Atlanta United in the transfer window, which opened Wednesday. It has three senior slots, and a Designated Player slot, open.
