UPDATE, Jan. 24.: In addition to special teams coordinator Marquice Williams serving as the head coach as previously reported, tight ends coach Justin Peelle will served as offensive coordinator, linebackers coach Frank Bush as defensive coordinator and special teams assistant Michael King as special teams coordinator.

FLOWERY BRANCH — The Patriots and Falcons coaching staffs were selected by the NFL to coach in the East-West Shrine Bowl in Las Vegas.

The college all-star game is set for Feb. 2 at Allegiant Stadium.

“What the league’s done a good job of, if you are one of the staffs that does coach in there, they want it to be about development,” Falcons coach Arthur Smith said. “It’s a lot of the younger guys getting opportunities and bigger roles.”

Falcons special teams coordinator Marquice Williams will head up the staff. Smith will help coordinate some of the operations.

“The East-West Shrine Bowl is not only a showcase for tremendous athletes who have a dream of playing at the next level, it is also a venue for upwardly mobile coaches in the NFL,” Troy Vincent, the NFL executive vice president of football operations, said in a statement released by the bowl. “This is an opportunity to further develop, evaluate and showcase our assistant coaches who may be our next generation of head coaches.”

The Falcons still plan to have representatives at the Senior Bowl, which is scheduled Feb. 4 in Mobile, Ala.

“We’ll find the right balance because there will be good players at every game,” Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot said. “... What we usually do is we have a group of scouts who go to the East-West and then go to the Senior Bowl afterward. You’ll balance it out. But we’ll make sure that we have both covered.”

Georgia linebacker Robert Beal and Georgia Tech linebacker Charlie Thomas are slated to play in the game.
