Atlanta United striker Josef Martinez was diagnosed with a low-level hamstring strain, club president Darren Eales said on Monday.

Martinez is scheduled to undergo a scan on Monday.

Martinez was subbed out at the start of the second half of Saturday’s game at Montreal after he appeared to be reaching behind his right leg with 10 minutes remaining in the half.

Atlanta United won’t compete again until it is scheduled to play at Toronto on Oct. 16.

Martinez, who leads the team with 10 goals, has been dealing with issues in his right knee the past few weeks. As a result, he didn’t play two weeks ago against Philadelphia, returned to play at home on Sept. 29 against Miami, in which he scored his 100th goal for the team across all competitions, and then played 45 minutes against Montreal.

Atlanta United is in eighth place in the MLS East, one spot below the playoff line. The team is one point behind D.C. United, NYCFC and Montreal. It is three points behind third-place Orlando. Atlanta United’s remaining six games include just one team, NYCFC, which is above the playoff line.

If Martinez must miss time, manager Gonzalo Pineda could choose from Erick Torres, Jackson Conway or Erik Lopez as strikers, or use the “false nine” formation used a few times with mixed success in the past few games.
