Jason Weinmann, 47, bought a military transport vehicle at a government auction 10 years ago. He used it Friday to help people in New Bern, North Carolina, who asked to be rescued, CNN reported.

"That's why I got this thing, to use in times like this," Weinmann said.

Weinmann rescued 10 people from flooded neighborhoods and took them to an area shelter, CNN reported.

According to North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, hundreds of people were rescued in New Bern, which was hit hard when Florence made landfall Friday morning.
