UPDATE [1 p.m.]: A wind advisory has been issued for all of North Georgia through Tuesday afternoon. The National Weather Service said to expect sustained winds between 15 and 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

ORIGINAL STORY: There is a chance a few snowflakes could hit your windshield on the drive into work and school Monday morning, according to Channel 2 Action News.

A system of snow showers is moving into the North Georgia mountains from Kentucky and Tennessee. While a winter storm warning is in effect there, metro Atlanta can expect only passing flurries along with some very cold air, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

Flurries were reported before sunrise near Lake Allatoona. Monahan said those in Bartow, Cherokee, Paulding and Douglas counties could see a little wintry precipitation on the morning commute.

“It should not cause any big issues on the roads,” he said. “Pavement temperatures are above freezing. It is cold, but there shouldn’t be any wet roads for you this morning.”

Monahan said temperatures are in the upper 30s to begin the day, but it feels more like the 20s with the wind chill. Monday definitely calls for a winter coat, he said, “that big puffy one, the one that really keeps you warm.”

Temperatures are not expected to move much through the day under a good bit of cloud cover.

“It’s going to be chilly today,” Monahan said. “You’ll need to bundle up through the day. We’re going to be around 40 degrees for a high.”

In the mountains, Monahan said snowfall through the afternoon could amount to up to 4 inches of accumulation on the highest ridgetops. The winter storm warning for Fannin, Gilmer and Murray counties is in effect through 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

There is no snow accumulation threat in metro Atlanta, Monahan said.
