Riverwood International Charter School in Sandy Springs will host a forum to discuss plans for a new design for the high school.

Riverwood is scheduled to receive a 26-classroom addition as a part of the capital program funded by SPLOST, the one-penny education sales tax approved by Fulton County voters.

Due to extensive renovations over Riverwood’s 43-year lifetime, the Fulton County Board of Education is exploring options of how the current addition and renovation project may become the first phase to a replacement school.

Prior to any design process, school system staff hold a series of community meetings to share information about trends in learning and teaching and the design of high schools in Fulton.

The event scheduled for April 26, at 5900 Raider Dr., will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Input received will be used to inform potential high school program changes. These will be reviewed by the school board in late summer.

The Fulton County school system is the fourth largest in Georgia, with close to 95,000 students and 100 schools.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
