Georgia Tech secured a commitment from one of the top recruits in the state of Georgia on Monday with the announcement from Wayne County High guard Weston Franklin that he intends to play for the Yellow Jackets.

Franklin, who becomes the second highest-rated player in Tech’s 18-player class (247Sports Composite), made his announcement via Twitter. Franklin chose Tech out of his final six, which also included Mississippi State, N.C. State, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 308 pounds, Franklin fits the physical prototype that offensive-line coach Brent Key has for recruits on the offensive line. He had received his scholarship offer from Tech in June 2019, going into his junior year.

“He did a great job of recruiting me,” Franklin told Rivals of Key. “He asked me how I wanted to be recruited, and I told him how I wanted to be recruited, and he really respected the way I did that, and he respected me as well. He just did a great job.”

As the No. 439 prospect in the country, Franklin trails only wide receiver James BlackStrain of Cocoa, Fla., among Tech commits. (BlackStrain is No. 282.) He is the No. 32 prospect in the state of Georgia, the highest among in-state commits, surpassing Westlake High tight end Leo Blackburn (No. 42).
