Here’s what Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan had to say on Sunday:
On how the start of training camp has been:
"I think it's been good. You know obviously we're four days into it being on the field. I think the effort has been really good at practice. We've got a long way to go and a lot of work to do. A lot of hard work in front of us, but I think the start has been great. Can't ask for better effort from our guys and we've certainly gotten a nice break with the weather too. It's been beautiful out here."
On his comments about the play calling from the Super Bowl:
"I think sometimes the headlines of articles can be misleading. In that situation, it was just a reference to how we operated all year. It wasn't coming in too late or anything, it's just the way it came in. I thought Kyle Shanahan did a great job for us last year. I think everybody is reading a little bit too much into it. It is what it is, but we've moved on. We're on to this year and we're focused on trying to become the best football team that this team can be."
On Shanahan's comments:
"Exactly. We didn't have any delay of game's. That wasn't a critical take on Shanahan at all. That was just the way that we operated in the past. Shanahan did a great job for us for two years and did a great job of calling plays for us. It wasn't a critique on him. It was just the way we operated."
On the continued growth of Tevin Coleman being used in the passing game:
"Those two guys, Coleman and Devonta Freeman, are so versatile for us. You saw that when you watched those guys compete this offseason. You see it in the way that they practice and at the start of camp. Catching the football in the backfield is going to be critical for us. I think those guys are two of the most talented guys in the league and are three down backs. They catch the ball really well for us. They run the ball in between the tackles, outside the tackles, and they pass protect for us really well. We're lucky to have both of those guys, but Coleman has done a great job."
On whether Dan Quinn has taken a different approach this offseason:
"I mean Quinn has been this way since I've been here. He's forward thinking and about constant improvement. From that sense, I don't think he's been any different. I think he is taking a pulse of this team, this organization and where we're at and is trying to push us further and make us better. So, from that standpoint I think he has been really similar."
On what he expects from Austin Hooper this year:
"I expect a lot. I think Hooper has done a great job for us. He played at a high level for us last year as a rookie and I think having this offseason to be able to spend time in the facility to learn and catch his breath a little bit from that first year and learn from that experience. I think he is going to do great things for us. As far as spending time with him during the offseason, I'm just impressed with the way that he works. He's dedicated. He wants to be a great player and when you have guys like that, it's exciting to be around them."
On how it has been working with Derrick Coleman:
"Coleman has been great. He's a guy that obviously stands in the correct spots in the huddle to make sure he can see what you're saying as well. But really after working with him for the first couple of days, I don't even think about it anymore. He's amazing. He does a great job for us. He's been a pleasure to work with. He works extremely hard and he's really dedicated to trying to be the best player that he can be. It's been great working with him so far. I mean there's a few tweaks with things we've done maybe a little bit differently in terms of shifts and motions and sending him at the right times. But that's about it."
On what Mohamed Sanu's personality brings to the team:
"Sanu brings a lot. I mean obviously you guys see the plays that he makes on the field, but it's also the energy that he brings day to day on the practice field. He's a high energy guy and guys feed off of it for sure. I know for me when he's going and he's talking with that big smile on his face, that positive energy is contagious. He's been really good for us. He's a leader for this football team and he does a great job with it."
On the young players in the secondary:
"I think our young guys have done a good job. They're aggressive learning the system. One thing you see is great effort, going after the ball nonstop. They give great effort towards the football. I've been impressed with what they've done."
