FLOWERY BRANCH -- Cornerback Cornell Armstrong, who came on in relief of A.J. Terrell against Cincinnati on Sunday, was signed to a one-year contract and added to the Falcons’ 53-man roster Saturday, according to his agent.

Armstrong, who finished with eight tackles and one pass breakup against the Bengals, is set to start for the Falcons (3-4) when they play the Panthers (2-5) at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

“He did fine,” Falcons secondary coach Jon Hoke said of Armstrong’s performance against the Bengals. “He did some really, really good things. He did fine. He was in position. ... We’ll just clean up the technique. He’s a competitor. He’ll bounce back. He’s that type of guy. We’re excited to see how he moves forward.”

The Falcons also promoted safety Jovante Moffatt and defensive lineman Jalen Dalton from the practice squad to the game-day roster.

Armstrong has been trying to stick in the NFL since the Dolphins selected him in the sixth round (206th overall) of the 2018 NFL draft. Armstrong, who’s 6-foot and 180 pounds, played at Southern Miss.

After playing in 15 games in 2018, Armstrong was waived by the Dolphins and since has been on the fringes of the NFL. He was with Texans for most of 2019 through 2021 as be bounced back and forth from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. He played in 15 games with the Texans before signing with the Falcons.

“I’ve been praying for this moment for the last two years,” Armstrong said after the Bengals game. “I’ve been cut, released, put back on the team, released again and this team gave me another opportunity. I really don’t look at it like that. (I cherish) every moment and then on to the next.”
