Atlanta’s heat streak will continue through the second of half of the weekend, with temperatures expected to reach the low 90s.
Unfortunately, a cold front will move through North Georgia later in the day, bringing isolated storms that could turn severe, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.
“The main threats will be from damaging wind gusts and hail,” she said, adding that heavy rain will likely accompany the storms.

The rain isn’t expected to move through metro Atlanta until after lunch, however, so those planning to get outside may want to leave the house a little earlier.
After a dry Saturday, that moisture is expected to increase the humidity across the state, making it feel even warmer than the projected high of 92 degrees, she said.
Those isolated showers are expected to linger into Monday, when there will be a 30% chance of rain across metro Atlanta, according to the latest forecast.
“The front will slide south Monday, and after a few showers and storms early, we’ll have drier weather around for the afternoon,” Deon said. “It will be hot and humid heading into the first half of the week, with highs climbing into the mid-90s Tuesday and Wednesday.”
After taking last weekend off for the Fourth of July, interstate construction projects have officially resumed. That means drivers could run into overnight lane closures on Atlanta’s freeways.
Three left lanes of I-85 South will be blocked at the Ga. 400 interchange from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Tuesday, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. Drivers may want to avoid the area overnight, if possible.
