School board remembers Gwinnett County political pioneer Webb

Sept 16, 2016

Gwinnett County school board members fondly remembered Lillian Webb, the longtime political and civic leader who died Thursday.

“She did so many things for the community,” board member Mary Kay Murphy said in remarks near the end of Thursday’s school board meeting.

Murphy recalled Webb’s efforts to expand educational opportunities in the Norcross area. Webb was an 11-term mayor of Norcross. She was also the first woman to be elected chair of the county government’s Board of Commissioners.

Webb died at the age of 87.

“She will be missed,” said school board chairman Dr. Robert McClure.
