The Gwinnett County Public Schools Parent Mentors will host a seminar for all parents of students receiving Special Education Services, titled “Life Beyond the High School Diploma.”

Presented by Stacy Poteat, GCPS special education coordinator, and Niles Davis, GCPS instructional coach, the seminar will address challenges facing individuals with disabilities after high school, barriers to college success, differences between K-12 and college, types of accommodations, employment and disabilities; barriers to employment success, and college programs for students with intellectual disabilities.

According to the state Department of Education approximately 10 percent of Georgia students have special needs.

This seminar will be held at  9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center, 437 Old Peachtree Road NW in Suwanee, Building 200, Central Gwinnett Room 2.111.
