Gwinnett BOE elects chairman, sets 2019 calendar

At its first meeting of the year, the Gwinnett County Public Schools Board of Education elected officers and set the calendar for 2019.

District I representative Carol Boyce was replaced as chairman with District III representative Dr. Mary Kay Murphy in a unanimous vote.

Murphy, the Development Officer at Morehouse School of Medicine, took office in January 1997. Re-elected in 2012 and 2016, she represents all or part of the Collins Hill, Duluth, Lanier, Norcross, North Gwinnett, and Peachtree Ridge clusters, as well as GIVE Center West, New Life Academy of Excellence in Duluth, North Metro Academy of Performing Arts, and Buice Center - ADAPT/STRIVE programs, as well as the Bridge program. Her term runs through December 2020.

District V representative, Louise Radloff took over the vice chairman position which was last held by former District IV representative Dan Seckinger who left the board in December.

Radloff has been on the board since 1973 and represents all or portions of the Berkmar, Duluth, Meadowcreek, and Norcross clusters in addition to Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology and Maxwell High School of Technology. Radloff has served as board chair eight times. Her term runs through December 2020.

In other action, the board voted to continue to meet on the third Thursday of every month (with the exception of January) at 7 p.m. with board workshops taking place at 2 p.m. on the same day.
