The winners of the DeKalb County School District’s Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl competition are Arabia Mountain High School, Henderson Middle School and Vanderlyn Elementary School.

They’ll be joined Saturday at the metro Atlanta regional competition at Clayton State University by second-place finishers Lakeside High, Chamblee Middle and Ashford Park Elementary. Third-place finishers do not advance. They were: Montgomery Elementary and the International Community School (they tied at the elementary level), Tapestry Charter School and Columbia and Tucker high schools (another tie).

The contest, which has spread across Georgia, is named after the former DeKalb school librarian who started it to encourage her students to read. Schools select teams to answer questions from select books.
