Berry College — a private four-year liberal arts institution near Rome, Ga. — launched a $100 million fundraising campaign Saturday night with more than $70 million in secured commitments.

The “LifeReady” campaign will provide funding to help Berry target the issues of cost, relevancy and access to higher education through scholarships, mentoring programs and athletic and other construction projects.

In the four years leading up to Saturday’s campaign kickoff in Atlanta, the college kickstarted its fundraising with the Gate of Opportunity Scholarship Program, which allows students to work their way to graduating debt free. The $24 million collected for that program funds about 130 scholarships each year.
