Get ready for another round of showers and storms Friday before rain chances drop this weekend.
Though downpours aren’t expected to really fire up until 3 p.m. or so, it will feel tropical all day long, according to Channel 2 Action News.
“There’s a ton of humidity out here this morning,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “We have one more day of downpours.”
Between now and lunchtime, isolated showers are possible, according to the latest forecast.
“So not too bad rain-wise between now and early afternoon,” Monhanan said. “But by late afternoon, showers and storms are going to become more widespread.”
Pop-up thunderstorms that include heavy rain and lightning could last into the evening.
“It’s going to be one of those days where it could be pouring in your neighborhood and you look outside and see blue skies nearby,” Monahan said.
After a high of 89 degrees and about eight hours of sun Friday, Atlanta should see highs in the 90s and 10 hours of sun Saturday and Sunday, according to Channel 2. Rain chances drop from 60% Friday to 40% Saturday and 30% Sunday.
“Yes, there will be some chances for rain over the weekend, but it should be much drier,” Monahan said.
By the end of the weekend, though, Monahan said he will be watching Hurricane Isaias, which could send extra moisture in Atlanta’s direction.
Except for one trouble spot in DeKalb County, the Friday morning commute is off to a relatively smooth start, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Crews are on the scene of a medical emergency on the I-285 South exit ramp at East Ponce de Leon Avenue. According to the Traffic Center, a car went off the ramp. While lanes are blocked, the incident has not affected interstate traffic.
“We’re not seeing any impact on I-285 from this East Ponce de Leon wreck,” WSB traffic reporter Mark Arum said.
